Beaded Portraits

Pierre Elliot Trudeau

Nicole Bauberger -

Since 2003 Nicole Bauberger has made her home in Whitehorse, YT. For over 25 years she has made her living as a visual artist, arts writer, and arts educator. Nicole has painted the highway and the landscape it passes through, across Canada, from St. John's NL to Victoria BC to Tuktoyaktuk NT. The resulting exhibition, Get There From Here, has been exhibited in public galleries throughout Western Canada. It will tour Ontario in 2019.

Nicole wants to thank the women who have taught her to bead, particularly Mrs. Annie Smith. Annie is an elder of the Kwanlin Dun First Nation who has taught many people to sew. Nicole also learned from Annie's daughter Dianne Smith, as well as Shelby Blackjack. A special thank you also to the women of the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre Sewing Circle, whose support assisted Nicole in completing the Trudeau beaded portrait. Nicole loves moose stew cooked with biscuits on top.
